This brought back memories of a very small, portable, typewriter that I carried with me for years when I was living and working in Britain. I finally stopped using it when I went to laptops [ and could not buy new ribbons for the machine] but I can still remember typing out letters and other writing with that small beauty nestled in my lap. It amuses me that when NPR refers to listeners’ comments there is the sound of typing from an old manual machine in the background–that sound must mystify younger listeners.

I have to say, Dr. Davies, it’s a hoot. It works well and I found new ribbons online for next to nothing. Same reason I went back to Blackberry. I like the keys.
